HMB provided right of way services for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) to complete the US 27 Realignment project in Garrard County. The project consisted of 72 parcels that varied from total takes of businesses and improved residential tracts to strips of farmland and farm improvements. There were also several MAR parcels that were simple easements across various types of land. HMB was also responsible for the HAZMAT inspections and the demolition of all acquired improvements.
The project was designed in sections and right of way was acquired in the order of the sections. HMB’s team assured that the right of way was cleared as needed for construction to begin. They worked closely with the KYTC, as well as the design engineer and construction contractor to keep the project moving forward.
There were several changes to the control of access on the project. Skilled negotiators worked with the property owners to help them identify the best options after the changes and to come to a successful solution that was agreeable to all parties.
