Traffic & Planning

HMB offers Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering Services, including traffic forecasting and safety analysis. Our Planning team handles preliminary engineering challenges, from traffic impact studies for developers, to large corridor studies for State Departments of Transportation. Our team is licensed in KY, IN, TN, AL, and FL, with certifications such as PTOE and AICP. We evaluate existing conditions, develop alternative solutions, engage the public, and provide concise reports and recommendations. Our documents comply with local and state requirements. We use various traffic analysis software packages and work closely with clients. Example projects: US 82/SR 69 Intersection Improvement Study (Tuscaloosa, AL), US 25 Corridor (Rockcastle County, KY), I-71 Widening (Oldham County, KY), Coffee County Industrial Development Traffic Study (Manchester, TN), I-64 Corridor Study (Louisville, KY), and Smallhouse Road Study (Bowling Green, KY).

We excel in evaluating innovative intersection and corridor designs. We are on KYTC’s traffic forecasting on-call contract and have completed major traffic forecasts, including for the Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project.

Safety analysis is another area of expertise, including intersection and corridor safety improvements and district-wide initiatives for roadway improvements.

Our team has extensive safety analysis experience on a variety of planning and design projects. Our team is also on KYTC’s Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) on-call contract, where we partner with KYTC to deliver a variety of intersection and corridor safety improvements.
